Spiders first baseman John Wood never thought his name would be associated with some of the great players in league history. Now that he has reached the 2500-hit threshold, that's all but guaranteed. Wood collected his big hit in a 4-1 loss to Brooklyn.

Afterward, he thought about the achievement: "Overwhelmed," he said. "That's how I feel about it right now."

Wood went 1-for-4 for the game.

Wood is hitting .307 lifetime with 2500 hits, 392 doubles, 18 triples, 616 home runs and 1728 RBIs to date. He has scored 1414 runs and stolen 1 bases.
